What is Coas

COAS Educational Group is comprised of 6 schools and four private children's educational centres, with state approval and funding, which are well established in Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and La Rioja (northern Spain).

We have been in education since 1971, thanks to the initiative and vision of a group of families who along with professional teachers, agreed to set up an educational community, with the sole purpose of offering high quality education to our current society, focusing on Christian values, innovation and creativity.

Our approach to education is centred on innovation and excellence This is achieved through the involvement of our pedagogical departments with the advice and assessment of other prestigious educational institutions.

From its origins, COAS has based its educational emphasis on the criteria of the parents, their children's first educators, on the tireless efforts of our teachers, and on the trust of our students, as well as on the recognition of all the institutions of our sole task; i.e. the will to educate.

What we are like

1- The COAS schools share the same educational model and options. We use the same teaching tools adapting them to their context and special features.

2- Our schools have taken the initiative and responsibility for incorporating the linguistic and cultural values into the educational programmes native to the Basque Country and La Rioja.

3-The Management of these schools and our educational programme is tailored to the service of the family which reflects upon society at large.

4- We think that the very best kind of education is based on Christian values. Religious training activities and spiritual orientation are always a voluntarily choice.

5-We customise our teaching based on the premise that each student is unique.

6- We consider that our success as a teaching model is due to separating boys and girls, who though they share the same educational programme, are treated differently in order to compensate for the natural differences in both sexes.

7-Innovation and educational excellence are a constant issue for our Group. Thus, for decades we have maintained a close relationship with universities and prestigious educational centres both in Spain and elsewhere such as (Harvard University, the National Centre for Teaching Thinking in Boston, the University of Navarra, the Medical Institute for Child Development in Barcelona, the University Centre of Villanueva part of Universidad Complutense, Teacher Training School of Deusto University, the British Council and the French embassy.

8- In accordance with their foundational bias, all schools request the appointment of chaplains and religion teachers through the Prelature of the Opus Dei. The spiritual focus promoted by the Opus Dei is in perfect harmony with the educational aims of our schools. Our students learn that a job well done is a means of personal sanctification and a means of contributing to the good of society at large.

9- The ownership of our schools is legally constituted as non-profit organisations whose main social purpose is teaching at all levels. The administration of these entities delegates the management of each society to the Executive Commission of COAS Educational Group.
